BGS vs PSA vs SGC: Slab Dimensions Every Collector Should Know
Buying a case that fits PSA but not BGS is the most common — and most expensive — mistake new collectors make. Here are the exact numbers.
Why Slab Size Matters
Generic "universal" cases promise to fit everything. In practice, that means they fit nothing properly. A BGS slab in a PSA-sized foam well rattles. A PSA in a BGS well drops. Both situations cause the surface scuffing that knocks display appeal — and resale value — down a tier.
The Numbers
| Grader | Approx. dimensions (mm) | Notable trait | | --- | --- | --- | | PSA | 92 × 130 × 5 | The de facto standard most cases target | | BGS | 92 × 134 × 6.5 | Taller and thicker; subgrades visible on label | | SGC | 90 × 130 × 5.5 | Tuxedo black border, slightly narrower | | CGC | 92 × 132 × 5.5 | Smooth label, slightly chunkier than PSA | | TAG | 92 × 130 × 6 | AI-graded, thicker shell |
What This Means in Practice
If you collect a single grader, buy cases sized for that grader. If you cross over, look for cases with multi-grader foam inserts — typically a PSA well plus a BGS-deep well. Cross-fit foam is the only honest "universal" solution.
